I just watched this programme, on my neighbour's TV as I do not possess one ( either too poor or too mean to pay the licence fee or too busy blogging ) and found it very interesting. My hair was not dissimilar in the late 70's and has the same 70's tendency still, and I am lucky to still have it all although the colour seems to have washed out - I am heading back to black and white from colour.

While I agree that the issue has not been discussed, the first para is actually wrong.

The applications are on hold will not begin to be validated until after the Inspector's report on the NLWP is issued - scheduled in October. This will probably be delayed because there is further consultation to be done on the Haringey Core Strategy in the light of the new Planning Framework.

This will start in 2-3 weeks and last 6 weeks, after which the Inspector for Haringey has to write his report, which of course includes his conclusions re PW. The NLWP inspector is in turn obliged to take this into consideration, which will probably delay things further.

Thus nothing will happen re the planning applications until at least towards the end of the year, whatever the egregious Coleman would like to happen.

Plastic bags "on-tap" just leads to over production of bags and laziness to take a bag with one. Easy to do, especially with rise of multi patterned, varied design, easy pocket fold-a-way bags these days. If the south east wing is taken out of the equation, there is some bits of Alexandra Palace left that is of national importance (notably the theatre. But, there is nothing of international importance, let alone anything that would qualify for UN World Heritage status.

The Proposal put to the Trust Board last Thursday relates to the South East wing of Alexandra Palace, containing the TV studios, which comprises only about 10% of the total area.

In this limited goal, the South East wing, has a real chance of qualifying. The precedent is the Grimeton radio station near Varberg Sweden.

Or course even if just a part of AP gained UNESCO world heritage status, there would be a reflection on the whole as the Studios are inseparable from the whole building.

Veolia's solution does not include CHP.
The NLWA presentation that Veolia "are proposing a Combined Heat and Power enabled power plant" is misleading in that it disguise these facts:
(a) According to Veolia's own commissioned Environmental Impact Assessment scoping report its solution is: 'modern incineration technology'.
(b) Moreover, the report also states that Veolia's proposal does not include infrastructure for CHP.
(c) It would cost £10s of millions to convert Veolia's incinerator power plant to a CHP plant and this additional cost is not included in Veolia's proposal.
(d) Furthermore, Veolia is not proposing any heat end users, but merely stating: "We are actively investigating opportunities for surplus heat from the boiler to be used in a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system by local businesses".
(e) In fact, this is misleading because no potential intensive heat users exist in the vicinity of the Veolia site in Hoddesdon. The existing local industries consume minor amounts of heat and not at all viable given the potential output of a good quality CHP system based on the magnitude of the NLWA SRF heat output. Similarly, there is no viable residential consumption. In other words, building a heat infrastructure at the Hoddesdon site will be absurdly cost ineffective.

Firstly, I an encouraged at how organised the opposition is to this ludicrous scheme. But I am irate at how Haringey Council is complicit in Barnet council's plans to offload waste on their neighbours in a residential area. I am also astonished at the non-consultative stance of the NLWA, a public body which is behaving like an aggressive private company. While I hope the PWA has the legal and lobbying expertise to counter these plans, the bit that worries me is that the NLWA must think they have a chance of pushing this though. If it gets to the planning permission stage, can someone tell me who has the veto. The Mayor? The Home Office? It should be politically impossible for this to go through - as residents, we've got to make sure that's the case.
