"Friends live so close to this proposed site; terrible choice for such a facility.

"I have used Photoshop to highlight the area proposed – if the area highlighted is correct, you could replace the existing image on your blog.

"Good luck, Matthew."

  1. I am a retired chemistry lecturer with many years experience of battling big organisaions using my chemistry knowledge.

Last week I addressed a large meeting of angry residents and was surprised that no-one took up the methane storage units. They didn't know what it meant. So I explained....

Apparently methane storage tanks are planned for the site.

Now Methane when mixed with only a little air become an explosive mixture.

One should NEVER put a chemical plant next to a housing development. Especially where toxic or explosive materials are to be stored. They have a nasty habit of leaking out and destroying people's lives.

    We know about such disasters

    at Bhopal in India,

    at Seveso.in Italy,

at Chernobyl in the former Soviet Union, At 3-mile island off New York, and now in Japan where radionuclides were released.

In our own country - You may remember the explosion - Just 5 years ago of the largest fuel-oil terminal in Britain - near Hemel Hempstead.

I remember in Friern Barnet hearing the explosion and rushing out - seeing clouds of black smoke ascending - for several hours.

The site was at Bunsfield - go on look it up on the net.

Hundreds of houses were damaged and thousands of people were compelled to leave their homes.

Do we want to see a repeat of this scenario in Friern Barnet?

Here in Friern Barnet, and also in the Bounds Green Road area, people living near to Pinkham Way will live in homes that will become blighted. No-one will want to buy them. Their value will drop almost to zero. Those residents will be unable to move away to another site.

I feel it is everybody's duty to protest at the plans proposed by the NLWA and to the methane-storage units being installed off Pinkham Way.

Why not put one of these storage units in Essex Park N3 - and see one of our most prominent politicians bust a blood vessel to prevent it from being near HIS house.

We must all fight this terrible plan.

    Best wishes
