Warm welcome at Kensal Rise vigil
"I've just been down to Kensal Rise Library where people are keeping vigil in the warm sunshine to stop Brent Council boarding up the building. The atmosphere was friendly with passers-by stopping to have a chat and telling us how they value the library and appreciate the campaigners' efforts. Passing cars tooted in support."
Daily Telegraph: "As libraries close, is that the end of the stories?"
Children finished off some of their home made posters and paraded up and down with placards. Adults brought books to add to the outdoor community library that has sprung up and others browsed to borrow books.

"The first excitement was the boarding up of the library. “Closed until further notice” read the sign on the doors padlocked by Thursday afternoon. A 21st-century service means libraries few and far between.
"Kensal Rise closed despite a vigorous campaign that brought 400 people to St Martin’s church one night to hear Alan Bennett. 'Libraries have to be local,' he told them, 'the early part of a child’s reading life is vital.' That was true in his life as for a hundred other writers such as Laurie Lee, who 'gorged' on Joyce and Huxley at Stroud public library."
