Haringey Bounds Green Ward Councillors issue new leaflet

Councillor
Joanna Christophides

Planning application for the proposed waste processing plant at Pinkham Way

"We wrote to you in May, to update you on what was happening with Pinkham Way and to invite you to a meeting we held, along with Joanne McCartney, the London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey.

"We also held a meeting between ourselves, the Leader of the Council, the Cabinet Member for Planning, the Assistant Director of Planning and Regeneration, and representatives of the Pinkham Way Alliance, two local schools, and Bounds Green & District Residents Association. We also had a presentation, with a Q&A, at the first Wood Green Area Forum. We thought it would be helpful to update you now on the current situation.

Latest developments – Haringey puts application on hold

"We’re pleased that Haringey Council, as the responsible local planning authority, has put consideration of the application on hold, and this has been agreed by the applicants Barnet Council and the North London Waste Authority (NLWA). We have been asking for this on your behalf for some time, and we are delighted at this news.

"The application is being delayed for two reasons. Firstly, as Haringey Council has said, it cannot process the application without more detailed information. Assuming sufficient information is received (likely to be in late August/September 2011) the application would then be validated, and all the relevant details put in the public domain.

Councillor
Matt Cooke
"The second reason for the delay, is that the 'North London Waste Plan' is being examined in public by an independent planning inspector in February 2012, and Haringey Council thinks the application should be considered after the inspector’s report. This public examination of the plan will give people the opportunity to explain to the planning inspector their views, on whether Pinkham Way is a suitable site for a waste plant.

"A report into the plan will then be published by the inspector in April 2012. Once this report has been published, the planning application will be considered by the Planning Committee

How the consultation process will work

"We have been assured of the following:
  • A full and open consultation period
  • Letters sent to all local residents
  • Site meetings
  • Static exhibitions in Bounds Green and surrounding areas
  • An opportunity to discuss the proposals with the applicants, and with council officers
"The plans would also, of course, be presented to Haringey Council’s planning committee. Finally, there would be a consultation with the Mayor of London.

"If the application is presented to the council’s planning committee, we will play our full part as your local representatives, in making sure that you have all the information you need, to make your views on the application clear to the authorities, including the circulation of a guide as to how you might object or make other comments.
