"Green Party spokesman Shasha Khan said the protest showed the strength of feeling against the incinerator planned for Beddington Lane:
"A wreath of waste sends a clear message about the death of democracy in Croydon."
"But rubbish chief Cllr Phil Thomas accused the protesters of 'scaremongering' and dismissed the demonstration as 'one man and his dog'.

"The protest, organised by Stop The Incinerator campaign, began outside Croydon University Hospital. Protesters marched along London Road, handing out leaflets warning of the health risks posed by the incinerator, which would burn 275,000 tonnes of waste each year."
