North London Waste Plan Examination: Missive from Bowes Ward Enfield councillors

From: Councillor Alan Sitkin
Subject: 'North London Waste Plan' Examination
Dear Pauline Butcher,

My name is Alan Sitkin, and I'm writing you as Councillor for Bowes ward, London Borough of Enfield.

Together with my fellow Bowes ward councillors Achilleas Georgiou and Yasemin Brett, we have submitted an opposition to the proposed NLWP.

In addition to other considerations, such as the inappropriateness of locating the plant in a residential area, the knock-on effects for local air quality and traffic congestion, etc., our opposition is based on the lack of equity of an arrangement whereby London Borough of Barnet draws disproportionate benefits (selling off its Mill Hill property, but above all, getting its waste treated elsewhere) to the detriment of neighbouring boroughs.

I do not see that the proposed NLWP considers this point, and I would like to reiterate it, on behalf of all three Bowes ward councillors, at the pre-hearings meeting mentioned below.

Thank you for noting this statement of intent.
Councillor Alan Sitkin
Bowes ward
London Borough of Enfield

To everyone who made representations on the North London Waste Plan Proposed Submission DPD
Dear Representor,

Further to my email of 7 March, I write to confirm that the Pre-Hearings Meeting (PHM) for the North London Waste Plan Examination will take place on Thursday 12 April 2012 in the Council Chamber at Camden Town Hall, Judd Street, London WC1H 9JE, commencing at 10.00am. An agenda is attached. [Attachments are not shown here.]

If you wish to attend, please telephone or email me as soon as possible, to ensure adequate seating is provided.

The public hearings will commence at 10.00am on Tuesday 12 June 2012, and take place at Camden Town Hall or suitable accommodation close by. Further details will be circulated after the PHM.

Also attached is the Inspector’s Guidance Note, which you should read carefully, particularly if you intend participating at the hearings or to submit a statement in response to the Inspector’s Matters and Issues, a draft of which is attached. Detailed questions will be included and circulated following the PHM.

A Draft Hearings Programme, identifying the Matters to be discussed each day, is also attached. Those listed as draft participants are the representors who asked to participate at the time of making their representations. Please inform me as soon as possible if you (or your client, or the group you represent):
  1. asked to participate, but no longer wish to do so;
  2. did not request an appearance, but would like to be included;
  3. are listed to participate at the wrong hearing.
This will greatly assist the Inspector and me to programme the hearings as accurately as possible. Do not hesitate to contact me if you cannot remember whether you asked to appear, or if you require further information about the Examination. As I am not currently based at Camden Town Hall, please ring or email first to arrange an appointment to meet and/or look at any of the Examination documents.
