Enfield Conservatives: "Pinkham Way – Labour signed off the proposal"

Enfield Council meeting
Wednesday, 6th July, 2011, 7.00 pm

"I refer to the letter from Councillors Alan Sitkin, Yasmin Brett, and Achilleas Georgiou, published in the Enfield Independent on Wednesday 29 June. Instead of writing an outright ‘NO to Pinkham Way’ and acknowledging the effect it will have on us residents, they missed the point, and wrote a letter critical of the former administration and myself.

"There will be a Council motion on 6 July, to reject Pinkham Way. If this fails, then residents could well find that Pinkham Way becomes a reality, with all the issues of smog, pollution and traffic.

"Fact – The Labour-controlled council is accountable to the people of Enfield, in the decisions that it makes. Rejecting the Pinkham Way proposal, and supporting the motion on 6 July, is the right way to show they can do what people want, and stop something that will affect us all.

"Fact – No one gives a monkeys who says what, but they will if the proposals already signed off in May by Cllr Bond, Cabinet Member for the Environment, go ahead. Cllr Bond wrote that the Pinkham Way site plan ‘represents an important stage for our boroughs, in achieving a better approach to how we treat our waste’. Spin doctor 'supremo' Cllr Sitkin failed to mention this in his letter!

Cllr Daniel Pearce
"The very positive regeneration of the New Southgate and North Circular Road areas will be ruined by a very real lack of consultation and short-sighted decision making.

"Residents who are opposed to the Pinkham Way proposals are welcome to attend the protest outside the Full Council Meeting, at the Civic Centre, EN1 3XA, in Enfield Town on 6 July at 6pm, when Enfield Council will be voting on a motion to reject the proposals.

"For those who cannot attend, please submit a response to the consultation on the North London Waste Plan before 8th July, by either going online to www.nlwp.net or phoning 020 7974 5916.

"On 6 July, residents can see whether their local Councillor votes to say ‘NO to Pinkham Way’. No spin doctoring required, Cllr Sitkin: Just Yes or NO to the proposal!

"Yours faithfully, Daniel Pearce"
