Click above for details

WOOD GREEN AREA FORUM AND COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, 5TH JULY, 2011

BOUNDS GREEN SCHOOL, BOUNDS GREEN ROAD, LONDON N11 2QG

"Marc Dorfman, Assistant Director for Planning, Regeneration and Economy will be in attendance to provide a briefing on the processes, including consultation, for dealing with the planning application on Pinkham Way. There will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions on how they can be kept informed, where they can view the application and the supporting documentation and make their comments."

What will he say? We know, don't we?

(or if you want the boring old slides, they are here.)

UPDATE FROM OUR REPORTER
(not an expert in side entrances, perhaps: Anyway, there are bound to be more constructive updates added later)

Haringey's Coat of Arms
"PROGRESS WITH HUMANITY", is it?
THE GATE TO THE SCHOOL (WITH A RESIDENT'S FORUM NOTICE ON IT) WAS LOCKED FOR LATECOMERS!

RINGING THE BUZZER INTERMITTENTLY HAD NO EFFECT.

AND IT WAS TIPPING DOWN WITH HEAVY RAIN!

SO THIS IS A NEW-STYLE AREA FORUM?

LATER UPDATE. taken from 'Bowes Labour' web site, Enfield:

"Was in Haringey to hear their AD for planning / regeneration tonight"

(Presumably means 'ASSISTANT DIRECTOR', not 'anaerobic digestion')

"MARC Dorfman, is actually very, very powerful in this affair. It is he who decides whether to allow Pinkham Way to advance to Haringey's planning committee, based on whether it complies with the North London Waste Plan, and Haringey's own LDF Local Development Framework policies. (define "comply").

left to right: Alan Sitkin,
Yasemin Brett, Achilleas Georgiou
"I had a strong sense that Mr. Dorfman has a great deal of power to decide whether to listen to consultees' voices or not. We will explore this question in further depth, but if it turns out to be true, then I'm afraid that it might undermine our power in Enfield to exert influence at all. Which would be incredibly frustrating...

"It was also frustrating to see that I was the only representative of an Enfield political community (Bowes Labour) who could be bothered to go down to Haringey, and do real research. Makes you wonder to what extent the other politicians in Bowes (Tories and Greens mainly) are actually getting stuck into Pinkham Way, and not just mouthing off.

"For instance, did you know that Boris Johnson has to express a so-called Stage One 'yes or no' opinion on Pinkham Way, if Mr. Dorfman decides to send the application to Haringey Planning? And did you know that Boris Johnson must also express a Stage Two 'yes or no' opinion on whatever decision is finally taken? No, neither did I, but it raises certain possibilities.

Why isn't David Burrowes talking about influencing the Mayor? We know that our MP's Barnet cronies ran circles around him. What about the GLA? After all, Enfield-Haringey's GLA member, our Labour colleague Joanne McCartney, has come out against the application....

There is a lot of posturing in this affair, and it can be really refreshing to turn down the volume, and check the facts. Certainly, knowledge of reality is the best counsel, for our future conduct...
